The New SPRAWL Mobility Map

| | Comments (3)

Unfortunately the current SW Travis County Mobility Corridor Map that we have been looking at is no longer current. The revised map is not much better for SW Travis County and if adopted will in no way ease traffic problems but will surely promote development over the Barton Springs Watershed where there currently is little or no develeopment.
The western portion (west of Bee Cave) of the revised loop is simply a modified form of Alt A and Ald B, equally useless, equally destructive to water quality and wildlife (and existing human) habitat.
The eastern portion (east of Bee Cave) intersects at H71 just west of SW Parkway and runs cross country north east...over preserved BCP land, over the Colorado to connect to 2222.

The concept of this "mobility corridor map" or "How to Map for SPRAWL" is invasive and premature. The 2 or 3 roads that are actually in the works to redirect traffic around Bee Cave and ease congestion for everyone, including Lakeway folks, need to be completed and assessed.

1. The Galleria Parkway (in progress, estimated to redirect 30% of traffic away from Bee Cave center) - connecting Bee Cave Rd.to RR620 behind the Galleria
2. The HPR Extension - from H71 and HPR connecting to RR620 and the Galleria Parkway

will creat an eastern loop around Bee Cave.

There is also a 3rd road proposed which will extend Flintrock Rd and intersect w/ H71 west of Bee Cave and east of Bee Creek Rd.

The CAMPO Board need to hear from this community that these proposed roads that cut huge swaths through preserved land over the BS watershed and through wildlife habitat are unacceptable and will do nothing but promote SPRAWL..
The next CAMPO public meeting in Austin is September 18th at the Joe C Thompson Center next to the LBJ Library.

(I will try to post the most recent "mobility" map shortly)

Below is a good low res image of the official map. You can also download a much higher resolution image (about 5 MB).
